by Note Family, Inc. The Land of Music® Home School series by Note Family, Inc. is a complete music theory/performing arts curriculum. The tremendous success has come from the break down of various aspects of music theory into simple, fun, elements using learning through association as the base for this fantastic almost instant learning system. The Land of Music® system by Note Family, Inc. is taught throughout the United State and abroad. It allows the student to develop not only music education skills but also math skills far exceeding traditional grade level curriculum skills. The most wonderful aspect of the Land of Music® curriculum is that it is self teaching. Neither the parent or the child need to know anything about music theory to be successful with this curriculum. There are no added materials to have to purchase. The Land of Music® curriculum is designed so that everything in the different books are reproducible including the songs, activity pages, tests, and even coloring pages for Books 1, 2 and 3. Everything you need in the lessons are listed with all the materials included in each kit. There is no need to prepare lesson plans. The Land of Music® system far exceeds all requirements for grade level music skills requirements throughout the United States. The Land of Music® system uses all four styles of learning skills which assures the highest level of success possible. The Land of Music® system is divided into four parts. We do not specify which grade levels used to teach the different parts of the Land of Music® system to as it depends upon how much time spent each week allotted for music education. The end result is however that your child will be able to read and write music, play keyboard if you choose, and perform music education skills to a much, much higher degree than is traditionally taught throughout the standard music education materials designed for a high school curriculum and doing this in a way that it is truly fun for the child and fun and easy for the parent as well. One major advantage of the Land of Music® System is that the math skills are accelerated far beyond the grade level of the traditionally taught academic level of the child. Book 1 CD is recommended for Kindergartend through first or second grade. Book 1 "Meet the Note Family and Friends" introduces all of the note and rest symbols, the dot and the treble clef staff. It also introduces basic time signatures such as 44, 34 and 24, along with the musical alphabet. The students learn what a measure is, a staff, a bar line and the basic elements that together teach the reading of music. The Land of Music® system teaches through association such symbols as Willie Whole Note, the father of the Note Family; Helen Half Note, the mother of the Note Family; Quincy Quarter Note, the teenage quarter note, etc. These personified characters demonstrate through stories, songs, activity pages, games, movement and coloring pages the identification and value of each note and rest symbol, and much more. Book 2 CD is recommended for second and third grades. Book 2 "Build-A-Songhouse" introduces the names of the lines and spaces of both the treble and bass clef. It teaches the grand staff, ledger lines and many of the classic time signatures. There is also a keyboarding section for those who wish to learn keyboarding skills. Throughout Book 2 there are many opportunities to develop music-writing skills. Games, movement, activity pages and quizzes are used in each section, as well as stories, songs and coloring pages that teach and reinforce the objectives. Book 3 CD is recommended for fourth and fifth grades. Book 3 "Making Music" continues to teach the necessary "road maps" of a musicial composition. It teaches musical directions such as coda, D.S., the repeat sign, and others. The students will learn tempo markings, dynamics, dissonant sounds, accidentals and key signatures and their importance in songhouses. As in the previous books, characters such as Norman Natural
and Shirley Sharp continue to compare musical notation to things
that children are already familiar with. Keys are needed to enter
a locked door; the key signature of a songhouse needs to be learned
before you can correctly play or enjoy the song. Book 4 CD is recommended for sixth and seventh grades. Book 4 "Musical Mind"
is for those students who want to master music theory. It also
develops the listening skills of the student to recognize the
different instruments and in which styles of music each instrument
traditionally can be found. Book 5 CD is recommended for Junior
High Level. The classroom series from Note Family, Inc. has been used across the United States by many teachers who are searching for a theory alternative. We congratulate those who are taking the same steps in home schooling. We thank those teachers who have acted as counselors as we worked to produce each portion of the series. |
